Why We Celebrate Holi?

Now holi is celebrated with love and color but it signifies my important lesson and this is the reason it one of the most important festivals in the religion Hindu. Many people must not be aware of the reason behind the celebration of Holi

  • The Holika Dahen: The first and one of the prime reason and you might heard this story from your grandparents. This story revolves around demon king Hiranyakashipu, his son Prahlad, his demon sister Holika and Lord Vishnu. Due to his strong dedicated towards Lord Shiva, he granted his wish which made him believe that he is inevitable. After that he ordered everyone to worship him but his own son denied to worship him because he was a devotee of Lord Vishnu. This made him angry, so he decided to kill his own son but he was unable to do it even after many attempt.
  • Then he called his demon sister Holika and ordered her to kill him as she was immune to fire. But what surprises the most is that even after her power she burned down to ashes but Prahlad was unaffected and later Hiranyakashipu also got slayed down by Lord Vishnu even after his five powerful boons. This teaches us that there will always be the good who wins at the last no matter how powerful the evil is.
  • The Eternal Love of Radha-Krishna: When people talk about Radha-Krishna the one thing which comes to our mind is love. They are the purest and everlasting symbol of love. As we all know the complexion of Krishna ji was very different as his complexion was dark blue and he was very insecure about it, so he very innocently asked his mother Yashoda about the solution. Mother Yashoda advised him to color Radha in whatever color he like. So he very innocently colored her skin to be his own skin which made Radha fall in love with his simplicity and charm. Since then, color fight is celebrated as a sign of love and joy on the occasion of Holi.
  • The Legend of Dhundhi: This story revolves around the orgess and her name was Dhundhi, who used to trouble the children which made the king Raghu furious. So he consulted his priest who suggested a solution that the boys should go out of their houses to collect woods and grass and set it on fire while chanting mantras. He also suggested the boys to circle the fire, dance, sing, laugh and clap loudly as this will make her die according to the curse of lord Shiva. The plan was a great success. This is the reason young boys are allowed to use cuss words during the day of Holi.
  • Sacrifice of Kamadeva: This story is well popular in the Southern of India andThe lord Kamadeva was well praised in South India. After the death of Sati, Lord Shiva was suffering extreme pain so to seek peace he went in deep meditation. After that world suffered a lot so in order to deal with all the problem Goddess Sati took a rebirth as Goddess Parvati, so that Lord Shiva can fall in love with his soulmate and world can get back to normal. But due to his deep meditation this becomes really difficult for Goddess Parvati and after many attempts she decided to ask help from the Lord of love and Passion who was Lord Kamadeva. Lord Kamadeva agreed to help her even after knowing all the consequences. And lord Kamadeva shot his love-arrow right into the heart of Lord Shiva which made him rise from his deep meditation. This act made Lord Shiva extremely angry which led him incinerated Lord Kamadeva instantly. But later Lord Shiva fall in love with Goddess Parvati. It is believed that Lord Shiva burned Lord Kamadeva into ashes on the occasion of Holi and this is the reason he is praised in South India on Holi these are the Reasons to celebrate holi.
